The North West Surgical Trials Centre (NWSTC) is a Royal College of Surgeons of England, University of Liverpool and University of Manchester collaboration of surgeons, methodologists, health economists and clinical trialists with the vision of making the North West a region for world-leading surgical research and academic surgical training by delivering impactful trials that benefit patients.

Changing Surgical Practice:

"Half of what we are going to teach you is wrong, and half of it is right.  Our problem is that we don't know which half is which"

Charles Sidney Burwell, Dean Harvard Medical School

  • We want surgeons to challenge existing surgical paradigms and drive progress to improve outcomes for our patients.
  • We believe that every surgeon has a bright idea, but what they might not have is the capacity to turn that bright idea into research.

What we do:

  • Our multidisciplinary team of experts includes statisticians, surgeons, methodologists and health economists and has the expertise to help you develop your trial.
  • We provide a bespoke service, tailored to you and your trial.
  • We support surgeons who want to develop a clinical trial.
